Warming Up

And I thought Wednesday's were fun...
Life Lesson: Punching signs…never a good idea.

Today 3/5 – AM Fog to Partly Sunny – High 43˚ / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 30˚

6am 20˚ ~ 9am 32˚ ~ 12pm 40˚ ~ 3pm 43˚ ~ 6pm 40˚ ~ 9pm 37˚

Today will be a much nicer day what we experienced yesterday, as temps climb well above freezing by the time we get into the afternoon.  Partly to mostly sunny skies should coincide with the warmer temp values to melt most of the ice & snow.  With that being said, please use caution for the early commute.  Slick spots will be inevitable, along with poor visibility, thanks to thick fog across the area.

Cloud cover will increase this evening and tonight, ahead of a system propagating to our south. Precip with this weather producer looks to remain suppressed south of the Kentucky/Tennessee line, but the cloud cover will keep temperatures from falling too much tonight.  Overnight lows look to set up camp right around freezing.  Here’s a look at surface conditions as of 6am.  Hopefully this gives you a better idea of what we’re dealing with:

Thu – Partly Cloudy – High 48˚ / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 26˚

An unsettled pattern is anticipated to evolve Thursday, as the upper jet splits into two streams over our proximity. This term is referred to as split flow.  This setup will keep us quiet for the most part, as we find ourselves in between a northern and southern stem of the jet stream. Below is a look at the latest NAM 500mb vorticity (lift+spin) model, valid for 6pm this evening:

Located across the Gulf states is what we refer to as a cutoff low.  This is low pressure cut off from the main jet stream stream.  This will cause precipitation to evolve to our south on Thursday, but surface high pressure to our north looks to more than likely keep this precipitation well to our south.  Although unlikely, a few light, stray showers  Thursday and Thursday evening can’t be ruled our before this weather maker tracks to our east.

Fri – Sunny & NICE – High 56˚ / Fri Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 33˚

Warmer temps lead to greater excitement.

High pressure will take control of south central Kentucky as we get into the final day of the work week.  Southwesterly winds will coincide with sunny skies to take temperature values to the mid – upper 50s.  If you enjoy the outdoors, Friday will be the day to enjoy them.
