Light sNOw?

“…and that’s when I gave up on spring arriving.”

Today 2/12 – Partly Sunny, Iso’d PM Snow Showers – High 38˚ / Tonight – Decreasing Clouds – Low 18˚

6am 17˚ ~ 9am 22˚ ~ 12pm 35˚ ~ 3pm 38˚  ~ 6pm 31˚ ~ 9pm 27˚

Complicated forecast on tap for today, folks.  Cloud cover should remain sparse to start out the day, as a potent winter storm brews to our southeast.  This weather maker will churn moisture north toward our proximity through the Tennessee Valley, creating the potential for an interesting weather scenario this afternoon and evening.

As for right now, Bowling Green, counties to our east & along the Tennessee border (Allen, Simpson, Barren) are right on the fence of a tight snowfall gradient.  This means we’ll be right on the line (of course) of an area that could see very light snow accumulations (dusting).

Check out the NAM simulated radar model below, valid for 4pm this afternoon.  It paints light returns across the southeast tier of our coverage area:

NAM Simulated Radar Model Valid 4pm
NAM Simulated Radar Model Valid 4pm

Those located to the north and west of Bowling Green should be clear of the action.  Between you & I…I don’t think anyone will see much of anything, as lower levels of the atmosphere will be very dry.

Models are still in somewhat disagreement with this system, as a few particular products insist on keeping the precipitation well to our south.  Be sure to stay connected to @WarrenCountyWx & @Wx_Or_Not for the latest as this system evolves throughout the day.

Thu – Sunny – High 45˚ / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 30˚

Surface ridging will dry us out on Thursday, as light southerly winds escort temperature values into the low – mid 40s.  That’s not very warm, but it’s damn-near scorching compared to what we’ve experienced recently.  Soak in the rays while you can, as clouds will increase ahead of our next weather maker Thursday night.

Fri – Scat’d Rain & Snow Showers – High 41˚ / Fri Night – Scat’d Rain & Snow Showers – Low 26˚

Another round of fun slated to end the work week, as a cold front passes northwest to southeast across our proximity.  This little clipper system will bring with it the chance at scattered rain & snow showers, as temp values fluctuate around the freeze line through the day.  The GFS model below is valid for 12pm Friday, and likes the idea of snow:

GFS Precip Type Valid 12pm Fri
GFS Precip Type Valid 12pm Fri

What could start off as all snow early Friday may make a transition to rain as we rise above freezing.  This should cancel out any accumulations early.  With that being said, we’ll be keeping a close eye on Friday afternoon – night, as anything that falls will stick.  Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

That’s going to be all for now.  All of you along and south/east of Bowling Green keep an eye on this afternoon’s potential for light snow.  Have a great Wednesday, and stay safe.  Thanks for reading.
