Tracking Gradual Warm-Up Over Next Few Days

Getting Warmer…Slowly

Today 2/11 – Partly Cloudy – High 32˚/ Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 19˚

It is certainly a nice change of pace to be writing today’s forecast with words like “warmer” in the forecast. It does appear that after today, temperatures will gradually climb. Currently, high pressure is in place to our north, with an area of low pressure system swinging to our southeast.

High pressure will keep this system well to our southeast, but areas of Alabama, South Carolina, and Georgia (yes this means Atlanta) are under the gun again for winter weather.

No winter weather headaches here, however. Tonight that area of high pressure will keep our skies clear, but northerly winds will make it a chilly night with temperatures dropping down to around 15˚.

Wed – Iso’d Snow Showers – Partly Cloudy – High 38˚/ Wed Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 18˚

On Wednesday, temperatures will climb above freezing ahead of the low pressure moving to our southeast. As this low moves east southern Kentucky will be right on the northwestern edge of the precipitation. The model runs continue to show agreement in keeping the precipitation to our south.

The best potential for any snow showers would be late tomorrow afternoon. Any snow from this system will be very light in nature, with highest potential of light accumulations right along the Kentucky/Tennessee border, east of Interstate 65. Any shift of the low’s track to the northwest could increase the impacts from this storm, but right now, it looks like little to no accumulation for our area.

As the low tracks farther east, cold air will funnel into our area and the low on Wednesday night looks to dip around 18˚ with skies clearing by daybreak Thursday.

Thurs – Sunny – High 45˚/ Thurs Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 31˚

On Thursday, ridging aloft will build in from the west allowing temperatures to climb into the middle 40s under high pressure. Thursday will feature clear skies and overall, a pretty nice day looks to be on tap for Thursday.

Above, is a map showing what the latest run of the GFS model thinks our high temperatures on Thursday will be. Check out the warm temperatures to our west in the central plains. If the upper level ridge to our west can move over our area in the next few week we could end up seeing some more warm-ups.

Looking into the long range, despite a few chances of precipitation this weekend temperatures look to remain around normal for this time of year, and next week there are a few hints of a continuing warming trend. Great news for those who have just about had it with winter this year.

We will continue to keep you updated on the weather as it evolves over the next few days. As always, you can check out @Wx_Or_Not or @WarrenCountyWX for more frequent updates. Have a great afternoon.
