Kroger Scores Record Profit Thanks To Weatherman

This is NOT necessary.  I repeat…NOT necessary.

Today – Increasing Clouds, Iso’d PM Showers (and Sleet?) – High 40 / Tonight – Scat’d Wintry Mix – Low 32

6am 25 ~ 9am 32 ~ Noon 39 ~ 3pm 40 ~ 6pm 35 ~ 9pm 32

Cloud cover will increase as Arctic high pressure advances to our east today.  Southerly flow will allow temps to increase a bit from yesterday, but it won’t be any major improvement.  Attention will turn to this evening and the overnight, as a low pressure system tracks across the Gulf States, pulling overrunning moisture to its north and west, where we will be located.

Any moisture that extends far enough north will fall through a colder airmass closer to the surface.  This is expected to result in a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain.  The real question that remains is what time will it reach south central Kentucky.  If it arrives early enough, we could have minor traveling concerns for the evening commute.  Current thinking is that it will hold off until later tonight.  I don’t want to hear about any milk or bread pandemics out there.  Understand?  Good.

Tues – Wintry Mix/Rain – High 38 / Tues Night – Iso’d Wintry Mix – Low 25

After reviewing the latest data, I’m not expecting any major accumulation.  At most, I believe a few of us will see up to a dusting – 1/2″, with 1/2-1″ a more realistic possibility as you move north and east of our proximity toward Louisville.  With that being said, traveling conditions could become an issue for all the early commuters tomorrow morning.  The model below is valid for 6am Tuesday, and suggests frozen precip across our proximity:

If we’re able to keep the low levels moist enough, the light, wintry mix will transition to all rain by mid morning.  This will be in response to temperatures quickly scampering back above the freezing threshold.

Another shot of cold air will arrive Tuesday evening and overnight, and if the moisture phases with this airmass, we could see more frozen precip.  As of this moment, I believe the majority of the wet stuff will be well to our east.  We’ll need to keep an eye on it.

Wed – Sunny – High 34 / Wed Night – Clear – Low 20

High pressure takes over with the passing of the system, giving us sunny skies.  Don’t be deceived by those sun rays, folks, as temperature values will be tied down to the low – mid 30s.  Clear skies through the overnight will see values slide to around 20.

That’s all for the morning update.  I’ll be back this afternoon with my latest thoughts regarding our winter precip.  Until then, stay connected with me on Facebook and Twitter.  Have a great day, stay warm, and thanks for reading.
