Thursday Afternoon Update

This Afternoon – Gradual Clearing – High 81 / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 64

This morning’s activity has tapered off to an extent, now only impacting areas east of the I-65 Corridor.  We should continue to experience gradual clearing skies this afternoon, as forcing tracks to our east.  Overnight, I expect us to remain partly cloudy and calm.  The image below displays current visible satellite and radar reflectivity over our region.  As you can see, clearing skies are moving in from the west:

Fri – Partly Sunny, Iso’d Storms – High 84 / Fri Night – Mostly Clear – Low 65

Southwest flow will continue to keep a damp airmass in place, however, an upper ridge should limit any precip coverage to isolated.  This feature will remain in control during the night, supplementing mostly clear skies across south central Kentucky.

Sat – Partly Sunny, Scat’d Storms – High 82 / Sat Night – Scat’d Storms – Low 62

An approaching cold front will reintroduce scattered shower and storm chances, especially during the afternoon.  As we get into Saturday night and early Sunday morning, the cold front will advance across the area, giving us the best chance at seeing measurable rainfall.  We may even get a stray severe storm or two out of this, with main threats being frequent lightning, heavy rain and small hail.  The QPF model below is valid through 7am Sunday, and suggests rainfall amounts of 1-2″ for us:
